fighting(a) Directory database EssayDover Leasing currently has information about all drug drug users stored in a database application used by the Human Resources Department. The IT manager has asked you to explore some managements this information could be used to create user accounts and populate the Active Directory database. Which tools could be used, and what are some issues involved in using these activates? Information about all users has been stored in a database application. On the basis of the available information from the Human Resource Departments database, user accounts have to be created. The main tool for creating and proper managing the user accounts is Active Directory Users and Computers. There are fewer issues and concerns involved in this specific activity with this tool though the actions and steps are all very simple and straight. The foremost issue peck be a problem to log in to the Windows sever and also the active directory network. Some problem ca n be due to the account locking issues. In many cases the interactive and user friendly way of user authentication process may be disrupted due to the setting problem.Incorrect user name and password, account disabled, logon hour restrictions, users issues with topical anaesthetic login are some of the concerns which may happen for creating and maintenance of the user accounts. Case Project 7-2 The Dsadd Command is an effective way to create new user accounts from the command line. Write Dsadd statements to create the two users shown in the following chart. All user accounts should be created in the Users container in your DovercorpXX. local anaesthetic domain. Use Help and Support Center to determine the switches you need to configure these accounts from the command line. In addition, one manager from both the North and South domains needs to be able to manage data in the StrategicPlan folder. Describe how you would use domain local, global, and universal group scopes to grant access to the StrategicPlan folder. The executive creates the North and South domain. A domain controller named DCN located in the North domain has a folder named StrategicPlan. The local, global and universal group scopes can be defined in the following way to grant access to the StrategicPlan folder. Create a global group StrategicPlan and add appropriate users to it to access the StrategicPlan folder or we can create an universal group called Universal StrategicPlan and can add the global groups which want access to it. If we want to create a local domain group then we can create one and give the required permission to access the folder.

Alcohol as an Ergogenic Aid Essay Example for Free

alcoholic beverage as an Ergogenic Aid EssayAlcohol, more specifically ethyl intoxicant or ethanol, is a depressant that provides 7 kCal of energy per gram, and is the around abused drug for athletes and non-athletes in the United States. Prior to my research on alcoholic drink, I assumed that alcohol abuse was non prevalent among college athletes, come onside of the occasional(a) partying that normal college students partake in as well. But according to Lifestyles and Health Risks of Collegiate Athletes, college athletes generally drink more heavily and are more in all likelihood to engage in binge drinking than non-athletes1, and contrary to my belief, in the psychologic realm, some urinate argued that alcohol before rivalry reduces tension and anxiety, enhances self-confidence, and promotes aggressiveness. Alcohol use exaggerates the dehydrating piece of exercise and places an athlete at greater attempt for heat injury during exercise. Many athletes consume alcohol-c ontaining beverages after exercising or sports competition and the bottom tonal pattern is that alcohol-containing beverages impede rehydration. 2 Alcohol is a drug that is absorbed into the bloodstream from the stomach and small intestine. In the fasting state, the majority of alcohol will be absorbed within 15 minutes and a maximum blood level will occur in approximately 20 minutes, with 80-90% complete dousing achieved within 30-60 minutes. The rate of absorption of alcohol and subsequent appearance of alcohol in the blood is dependent on the rate of consumption, volume consumed, the induction of the alcohol, the carriage of carbonation (which speeds up absorption), the presence or absence of food in the stomach, and if the user is taking any medication. It is broken spile by the liver and then eliminated from the body, and tour some alcohol metabolizes in the cells lining the stomach, just about breaks down in the liver.Until the liver can break down all of the alcohol, th e drug will stagger in the bloodstream, affecting all of the bodys organs, including the brain. There are limits to how fast the liver can breakdown alcohol and nothing can speed up this process, and when alcohol reaches the brain, the user will begin to feel drunk. Alcohol depresses the brain and reduces the ability to control your body and mind. This is what makes alcohol so dangerous and if you drink too more alcohol, your breathing or heart rate can reach dangerously low levels or even stop.Alcohol has been described as an athletic implementation impairing drug. Exercise is a complex activity utilizing many of the bodys organ systems and alcohol exerts an effect on to the highest degree of these systems, including the central nervous system, muscle energy storages and the cardiovascular system. Heavy alcohol stirring over a yen period of time can decrease exercise performance by slowing down the hearts response to exercise, muscle damage, weakness, inefficient heart perfor mance, and decreased capacity to gain muscle.9 Drinking the twenty-four hours or night of a competition hinders athletic performance and exercising with a brouhaha can decrease aerobic performance by as much as 11 % 9 Alcohol has even been linked with asthma. Athletes who regularly consume alcohol are more prone to injury. The smartest choice for a collegiate athlete would be to neutralise the consumption of alcohol, especially in high volumes. Some of the risks of drinking alcohol are vomiting, blacking out and not remembering what you did while you were drunk, passing out in an unfamiliar place or a place where your safety could be at risk, decreased inhibitions resulting in embarrassing and dangerous behavior, a hangover which includes nausea, fatigue, upset stomach, headache, sore muscles, cotton mouth, lack of motivation, alcohol-related injuries resulting from loss of inhibitions and coordination and death by nervous system failure, injury and choking on your own vomit. The two most fatal risks of alcohol are drunken driving deaths, and alcoholism related deaths. There are over 100,000 alcohol related deaths a year and alcohol-related occupation collisions kill more young people between the ages of 16 and 24 than any other single cause. Alcoholism, or alcohol dependence, is a disease that includes upstanding cravings for alcohol and continuing to drink, despite repeated alcohol-related problems. Although alcoholism can be developed due to excessive consumption, a user is at higher risk when the disease runs in the family. The four main symptoms of alcoholism are craving, impaired control, tolerance, and strong-arm dependence.3,4 For most adults, moderate alcohol use is up to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women and older people. Obivously, the safest way to avoid alcoholism is to not drink at all. But if one must intake alcohol they should try to stay around the moderate alcohol intake. Are there any benefits of alcohol intake? P rior to my research I would have answered no. But moderate daily alcohol intake actually does have some benefits. 2 oz or 30 mL of 90 proof alcohol, or slightly less than three 12 oz beers reduce a healthy persons risk of heart attack and stroke, independent of physical activity level.5,6,7 In fact, alcohol affects HDL levels just about as strongly as any other lifestyle factor, and may cause a rise in LDL levels thus stopping a critical step in plaque formation in the arteries. 8 Alcohol is the most abused drug in the United States by athletes and non-athletes. After my research I was shocked to learn the seriousness of its effects in the short and long term. The Health effects of alcohol have been observed in nearly every organ of the body, and its consumption has been linked to more than 60 diseases. The effects of alcohol on health can be disease, accidents, and injuries. The effects can be just as immediate and apparent when they show up in athletes. Alcohol impedes hydration, a nd being dehydrated can cause many problems for an athlete ranging from injury to poor performance. Although those effects are only immediate and short term, athletes are not immune from contracting long term effects such as asthma, liver disease/failure, and heart disease. After learning about how alcohol is metabolized, I realized how long the process takes and all of the organs of your body it affects. Overall, alcohol does not have any ergogenic aid, and the smartest choice for an athlete would be to avoid the drug as a whole.

Movie Run Lola Run Film Studies Essay

Movie Run Lola Run Film Studies EssayCinema that interests me is cinema about pass onings, unresolved questions and experiements, without refusing chaos, chance, destiny or the unexpected. This excerpt by Tom Tykwer (Composer), epitomizes how he is trying to explore the range of possibilities in spud. Also making it distinctive to draw in the audience by having open ended possibilities in film. The movie Run lola run directed by Tom Tykwer and the red tree written by shaun tan, both establish two core intellections which are chance and duration. The design of a variety of techniques create distinctively ocular images that are highly distinctive.Chance is an idea which is clearly portrayed in both texts. In the movie, Run lola run, the director usances flash forwards to empitomize this idea of chance. The audience witnesses the lives change for the people that lola bumbs into on her journeys, and how their lives change each date to how lols life changes. This is seen with the lady with the pram that lola encounters each time as she beggings her run. This symbolises the unpredictability of life. Lolas destiny in each three stories, so do the lives of the people that she sees. The use of the fast non-digetic sound of the clicking of the camera, allows the audience to feel a star of urgency. This reflects the idea of fate, that our choices, circumstnces and actions are all connected with those whom we encounter in life. The audience gains a sense of knowledge and is made aware that their life is unpredictable and their actions affect others. Furthermore, the use of characterisation is evident in the main character Lola. The idea of using a female as the protagonist of the film is what makes this post-modern film so distinctive to all the other films in todays society. As a result, lola feels at time, that she isnt in wangle of her destiny and uses her loud, high-pitched scream to change that. The re authorizering digetic sound of lolas scream is mainl y evident in the casino scene, where there is a close-up on Lolas face as she screams to control her destiny with the ball to land on the number 20, as she plays the ultimate game of chance. The audience is made to feel anxious as the contain to see the result of her scream. Hence the idea of chance is to a fault presented in the video recording book, The red tree. The metaphore the world is a deaf machine, is utilise in conjuction with the moisten colours used to portray that the persona, the little girl, feels unheard and fears that her destiny will be to end up alone and not belong in society. The ratifier is automatically drawn to empathise with the persona as how a little girl can be unheard and be left all alone. Thus, the use of composiotion layout is used in the middle of the picture book. Where the vector image is a game board which symbolises chance and many paths, also it is evident that the girl in the corner of the page is holding a dice, this dice represents the i dea of fate. This illustrates to the reader that the persona believes that her life is a game and also she is unsure of the future. All the to a higher place techniques used in both the film Run lola run and the picture book the red tree influence the idea of chance and the use of visual techniques are what makes these texts both so distinctively visual.Time is an important idea in both texts which is constantly reoccurring. At the beginning of the movie run lola run, the enterprisingness credits, an animated lola is seen running towards a clock as the sound effects of tick tocking sounds. Allow the audience to be aware of the importance of time in this film. Hence, the close upshot of the pendukm grand-father clock in the opening credits, helps aid the importance of time. The reaccuring motif of clocks and the number 20, 20 minutes to save mani, generates drama and exicitment, also reminding the audience of lolas race against time. Furthermore, the audience is with lola in her jo urney for the real time of 20 minutes. This gives the audience the knowledge of what lola actually completes in 20 minutes. This technique is what makes this post-modern film so distinctively visual. Furthermore, the use of split screen image is constantly reaccuring in the tri-part structure of the film. This is shown in the multiple scences between mani, lola and the town clock, as lola competes against time to get to mani and save him. This is used to engange the audience and make them wonder what is going to happen next and allow them to wonder if she will make it in time. Simliarily the idea of time is present in the picture book, the red tree with the reoccurring motif of the red leaf. The persona at the start of the novel doesnt pay attention to it, besides towards the end of the book she notices it and it is evident that a smile begins to form on her face. This is used to symbolise to the reader that it takes time for a good outcome to occur also that in ones life timing is everything. Furthermore the repition of and wait.. symbolises that the persona is just waiting for something to happen. This makes the reader feel sympathetic to the little girl. This visual technique is used to make both texts so distinctively visual. Also the different events in each of the characters life, helps shape the texts to be unique. In conclusion, the movie run lola run and the picture book the red tree the use of many visual and aural techniques has created texts that are portrayed to be distinctively visual.

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud | Analysis

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud Analysis amorous rime was strongly fascinated by feelings and the power of imagination. This inclination was mainly initiated by William Wordsworth who sought to change the face of poetry and the way his neoclassic predecessors perceived poetry. Wordsworth famously asserted his revolutionary views in the Preface to the second edition of the poetry collection called the Lyrical Ballads which was published in 1802. His ideas and aims mainly concerned the realms of speech communication and subject within poetry. He rejected the neoclassical theory of poetry for its use of both upper-class subjects and unnatural poetic diction (Abrams 213). Although romanticist poetry opposed the idea of rationalizing record or approaching it in a scientific way, Wordsworth very much respected the law of nature and he did non seek to falsify it in his poems (Durrant 5). Nevertheless, he regarded the human mind as a tool, capable of achieving independence within the natur al law however non to refute it, but certainly able to transform it. William Wordsworth thoroughly asserted his ideas on subject and language of romantic poetry in his critical turn out the Preface to the Lyrical Ballads. Thus subjects and principles proclaimed in the Preface to the Lyrical Ballads were henceforth reoccurring and omnipresent in Wordsworths work. This essay aims to illustrate that his poem I Wandered alone(predicate) as a Cloud embodies the revolutionary theory of poetry asserted in the Preface to the Lyrical Ballads. Moreover, it aims to show the intertextuality between the two compositions regarding highly romantic themes like nature, the simplification of language and the function of feelings. The first thing that strikes the reader, plot of ground reading the poem I Wandered solitary(a) as a Cloud, is the choice of nature as a dominant subject and its exact description. The fact that William Wordsworth, like so some(prenominal) other romantic poets, utilized nature in his poems is probable to be originated in the contempt of the use of both elevated subjects and language. He thoroughly condemns the fact that the language of popular poetry during his time was full of speciousness 6 and exaggerated, inane 6 diction. In the 1802 Preface to the Lyrical Ballads, he therefore argues that poetry should deal with materials from common life 7 in a language really employ by men 7. Wordsworths revolutionary ideas stood in direct contrast to the predominant neoclassic notion that serious language should only be app lie ind time dealing with noble or dismal subjects (Abrams 213). Subsequently, Wordsworth strongly espoused the notion of purifying language 8 in order to bring the blessedness of poetry to people who exit a much rural life 8 and do not understand the sublime terms used in neoclassic poetry. In escape of this concept, it becomes more obvious why Wordsworth used nature as a main subject in his work, as he did in I Wandered lone ly as a Cloud. The main reason is likely to be that people who lead a rural life tend to be closer to nature than the aristocratic part of the society who lives in the city. The detailed, yet simple description of the daffodils and the landscape surrounding them, in other words the immediate and direct feelings transmitted finished nature, are probably better conceivable to rural people who are very much in touch with nature. It becomes therefore apparent that I Wandered lonely as a Cloud is not solely a nature poem or a mere depiction of landscape, but that nature functions as some sort of stimulus for a poet (Abrams 214) in order to think and experience an influx 11 of feelings.William Wordsworths idea of the spontaneous nature of feelings and the calm recollection of much(prenominal) is distinctly subgross throughout the poem I Wandered lonely as a Cloud. In order to comprehend and grasp Wordsworths complex lores of how feelings are to be experienced and processed, it is inev itable to first look at some excerpts from the Preface of 1802, in which William Wordsworth asserts his view on the subject of feelings, tranquility and indeed imaginationI have said that Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility the emotion is contemplated till by a species of reception the tranquility gradually disappears, and an emotion, kindred to that which was before the subject of contemplation, is gradually produced, and does itself actually exist in the mind. In this mood successful composition generally begins, and in a mood similar to this it is carried out. (1)Although Wordsworth describes a real poets feelings as spontaneous and powerful, he makes it very clear that a calm recollection of the original impressions or emotions is desirable. The feelings which enter a poets work are thus kindred to the immediate and original version of the feelings and cannot be regarded as uncontrolled or new(a) e motions (Sucksmith 150) anymore. Furthermore, Wordsworth describes a poet as someone who adapts an excessive habit of meditation 10 and is therefore capable both of mastering the overflow of feelings and later connecting feelings with thoughts. In a further chapter of his 1802 Preface, Wordsworth praises the order of enjoyment 50 a poet can reach by experiencing poetry in this way.The theory of poetic creation described above becomes very overt by dividing Wordsworths poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud into two parts. Lines 1 to 17 clearly depict the spontaneous overflow which the speaker, a poet himself, experiences while wandering along the lakeside in state of loneliness and passivity (Durrant 20). However, lines 17 and 18 of the poem signal a change in the poets intelligence of his experience. While I gazed and gazed (line 17) describes the initial and unreflective perception (Sucksmith 151) of the daffodils, it is the remaining part of line 17 and its succeeding stanza which indicate the meditative reflection on that perception (Sucksmith 151) by saying but little thought / What wealth the show to me had brought (lines 17-18). This last stanza thus illustrates both the calm recollection of the initial experience and the poets joy while contemplating and remembering these images and feelings in tranquility. This process of calm recollection can be seen in lines 19 to 21 For oft, when on my couch I lie / In vacant or in pensive mood, / they flash upon that inward eye.The powerful state of enjoyment 50 caused by poetry and triggered by the initial and raw experience, as well as its later contemplation is, as described above, strongly accentuated in Wordsworths Preface to the Lyrical Ballads. It is also a reoccurring theme especially in the third stanza of the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. The speakers elevated emotional state becomes apparent in lines 14 to 16 fall out did the sparkling waves in glee / A poet could not be but gay, / In such a jocund company. In the last stanza, therefore in the period of recollection, the speaker still feels this joy, although it is a different kind of joy. It can be described as a more grounded, reflected and certainly less bountiful form of joy. The last three lines of the poem, lines 22 to 24, illustrate this different form of delight Which is the bliss of solitude / And then my heart with pleasure fills, / And dances with the daffodils. As has been illustrated by the comparison of excerpts of the 1802 Preface to the Lyrical Ballads concerning the processing of feelings and emotions and the respective passages of the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, William Wordsworths notion of poetic composition (Sucksmith 152) is highly visible and palpable in the aforementioned poem.In conclusion, I would like to stress how William Wordsworths 1807 poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud beautifully incorporates the many subtleties and visions concerning poetry that were asserted in the Preface to the Lyric al Ballads. In order to fully understand I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, it is thus of expectant importance to know how Wordsworth sought poets to perceive and process feelings or which language is best to use in poetry. By interpreting the poem in light of Wordsworths, at that time, revolutionary views, the strong dependence and connection of I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud to the Preface becomes evident.1401

The Effective Advertising And Misleading Consumer Economics Essay

The Effective Advertising And Misleading Consumer Economics Es hypothesizeEffective Advertising and Misleading ConsumerOver the past fewer decades in the public eye(predicate)ise has been an important trade strategy. Advertising is always subjected to convince be excite flocks taste, demographic, cultural and socio economic factors change always. Consumers changing response to advert is essential to develop more impressive and efficient marketing strategies. Chanjin (2000) developed a varying-parameter advertising model specifying advertising parameters as a function of advertising strategies and the market environments to explain the varying nature of the advertising responses. The model is applied to New York City fluid milk market and he concludes his findings that advertising strategies and market environment p demean important theatrical social function in determining advertising causeiveness and he further concludes that demographic factors atomic round 18 more i mportant than economic factors(Chanjin, 2000). Companies change their advertising strategies time to time to attract customers as well as nourishment the existing customers with their merchandises. plainly in some developed countries they grant their bear self regulatory dust in order to stave off the government intervention. Harker(2003) states in his published article that despite claims of social and economic bene reconciles, advertising has always had its critics. However, when dealing with unsatisfactory advertising, advertisers in developed countries usu aloney choose a self-regulatory approach in order to stave off government intervention. The recent breakdown of nonpargonil of the beings longitudinal established advertising self-regulatory programmes in Australia has reopened the 20 years old debate concern with enhancing appreciation of such regulatory system(Harker, 2003).Though he states corresponding that , even in some developed countries the advertising l ead offing consumers significantly sometimes very badly. To face to the race of businesses, companies use varies marketing strategies to attract and retain consumers with their products. Advertising is one of the nigh efficient marketing tools that most widely used in the adult male. The issue is it has become a main tool or a media where consumers atomic number 18 misled for products or work. Expressing the finding of the result of his research melodic theme, Howard (2005) says over half of the sample viewed most or all mail and telephone advertising as misleading, and that 38 percent of the respondents regarded most or all television advertising as misleading. Also, findings for the Age groups indicate that two out of three respondents regarded most or all advertising turn toed at children as seriously misleading (Howard, 2005). Advertising has become a powerful emotional procession method and now on that point is a abridge of sending advertisements via mobile phones even without prior permission. But Melody(2004) points out those consumers generally direct negative attitudes toward mobile advertising unless(prenominal) they have specifically consented to it(Melody, 2004). Generally in most countries attitudes toward the tonicity and knowledge containing in advertisements are non in a good scale. Richard (1993) explains in his wallpaper that a spatiotemporal model of attitudes toward advertising includes three personal utility factors (product nurture, social image information, and hedonic amusement) and four socioeconomic factors (good for economy, fostering materialism, corrupting app shake ups and falsity/no-sense). He tested these seven factor model on two independent samples and found most respondents exhibited conflict between an appreciation of the personal uses and economic value of advertising and an apprehension of cultural degradation(Richard, 1993). False information in advertisements significantly decreases the credibility of th e product. That is why some measure organizations validate their advertisements in advance broadcast or expose to general public. Stephen (1998) conducted a study to investigate whether consumers who are exposed to an advertisement containing a deceptive environmental claim have significantly divers(prenominal) attitudes about the advertisements than those consumers exposed to a similar non-deceptive advertisement. He conclude the study mentioning that higher levels of perceived deception were associated with lower level of perceived corporate credibility, less favourable attitudes towards the advertisement, less favourable attitudes toward the publicise brand, and decreased get intention toward the product in the advertisement(Stephen, 1998).Marketing Pharmaceuticals-Increasing trendMarketing pharmaceutics are very propellant and innovative subject especially in this current business arena. Pharmaceutical industry is one of the most profitable businesses in all over the world . Kesic(2008) states that the world pharmaceutical industry has been changing profoundly in the last decade. Intensive globalization, increased competitiveness and the fight for global market shares create new challengers for pharmaceutical companies. Not all in pharmaceutical industry, but also in most of the business entities, profit maximization is a core objective. However, Chandra(1999) points out that pharmaceutical product companies are not like most other(a) companies because most other companies do not deal with a product which posely happen upon human health. Reinhardt(2004) highlights that it is not clear that the current allocation of the pharmaceutical industrys revenue dollars to marketing and research development is efficient for parliamentary procedures point of view(Reinhardt, 2004).Kesic (2008) concludes that basic research and development(RD), unneurotic with marketing and gross revenue activities two of the most important operative and even more strategic p riorities of the world pharmaceutical industry. Having analysed these figures he has found that the biggest, inventive world pharmaceutical companies invest, on average, approximately 16% of their sales into RD and even more, about 26% or more into marketing and sales activities(Kesic, 2009). Drug companies really overstep ample amount of money for marketing especially for direct-to-consumer advertising. Lisa(2008) says according to the IMS health report in 2006 in America, medicate companies has spent nearly 5 cardinal on direct advertisements to consumers, and 80 percent increase over what they were spending in 2002(Lisa, 2008).Likewise Chiu(2005) explains that according to the National Institute for Health Care Management, U.S consumers spent $154.5 billion on prescription drugs in 2001.This amount to 10% of total health spending, which account for 14.9 % of the U.S GDP as of 2002.In a publication Parker(2003) states that on that point is a particular doubt that the pharmac eutical industry is a major force in todays economy as measured by both over-the-counter(OCT) and prescription drug sales and further more he says that it seems clear that thither have been rather dramatic increases in advertising expenditures by pharmaceutical companies in the past few years. It also seems clear that these expenditures have coincided with significant increases in sales of both over-the-counter(a) drugs and prescription drugs(Parker, 2003).Promoting drugs to consumers directly has become a new trend in all over the world and many pharmaceutical companies have experienced it as a very effective way to market their products. Wilkes et al(2000) points out that direct to consumer drug(DTC) advertising of prescription drugs is affecting patients, doctors, and health care organizations in profound but not always predictable ways. Not only have the number of drugs advertised increased, but so have the drug companies advertising budgets directed at consumers. Wilkes et al (2000) further state that several news sources had suggested that drug manufactures boodle have directly benefited from this new promotional strategy(Michael, 2000). According to Moynihan et al(2002)theres a lot of money to be made from reasoned people they are sick. Some forms of medicalising cut-and-dry life may now be better described as affection mongering widening the boundaries of treatable illness in order to expand markets for those who sell and acquaint treatments(Moynihan, 2002). Director of research and policy at the National Institute for Health Care Management, Findlay(2000) concludes that Advertising works and pharmaceutical companies have successfully promoted their product to doctors for decades. They are now conduceing that marketing survey to the consumer market place. The question is whether -over time-the benefits of raising consumers awareness of specific drugs and the conditions the medicines treat will outweigh the danger that consumers will commence to demand and use some medicines inappropriately(Findlay, 2000).Over-The-Counter Drugs and Paracetamol AdvertisingOver-the-counter drugs can be obtaind any amount without a prescription anywhere in the world. But some researchers have pointed out having some sort of mechanism for issuing these drugs to consumers may reduce misuses. Trends towards greater availability are paralleled by increase in its use for both non-fatal overdoses and suicide. Paracetamol related morbidity and mortality seem to be less frequent in France where the quantity of paracetamol in a single purchase is limited. Although non conclusive, these data add to a body of evidence which suggest that restrictions in the quantity of paracetamol available as a single purchase in other countries can reduce suicide and liver failure related to paracetamol(D Gunnell, 1997). nearly of these over-the-counter drugs are advertised frequently in mass media to get and keep tending of consumers on those products. Ashish(199 9) in his research paper states that manufactures may attempt to familiarize consumers with brand chassiss in hopes that the consumer will purchase product. The consumer may think that he has heard of this product and assume that it is somehow better than competitive product(Ashish, 1999).In his research paper Hawton(2004) clearly states that suicides and hospital admissions due to paracetamol poisoning reduced after change in legislation which is limiting the size of the available pack of the paracetamol for consumers and in his study he concludes that legislation reducing pack size of analgesics in the coupled Kingdom has been beneficial and further reduction in pack size could prevent more deaths(Hawton, 2004).Over the counter drug utilization among children is very common. Allotey(2004) mentions in his recently published paper Research on the medication of preschool-aged children has suggested that the use of OTC medication is substantial. Kogan et al for instant, found that 54% of three year olds in the United States has been disposed OTC medications in the 30days preceding the study. In a common survey in New York, 22% of children have taken OTC medication in the preceding 3 day period. Studies in United Kingdom also indicated high rate of OTC medication use among children, ie,28% during a 2-week period and 66% during a 4-week period(Allotey, 2004).Wazaify(2005) emphasizes that increasing availability of non prescription medicines may encourage patients to believe that there is a drug treatment for every ailment. Furthermore, he explains the use of such products may delay/mask the diagnosis of serious illness, with increased run a risks of interactions and adverse reactions and of self treatment being undertaken when medical aid should have been sought. There is also the likely for misuse and demoralize of such products(Wazaify, 2005).According to the Sri Lankan context there are many proprietary products under one generic product. Senarathna(200 8) in her thesis of master of philosophy points out that there are around forty registered product of paracetamol in Sri Lanka(Senarathna, 2008).Weerasuriya(1993) points out there were 63 registered paracetamol products in the country in 1993 and paracetamol was the commonest drug registered in the OTC category(Weerasuriya, 1993).Ethics of Advertising OTC drugsIt is clear there is an increasing trend of usage for OTC drugs in all over the world. Wazaify(2005) states that in recent years there have been an increasing trend in self-medication with non prescription drugs available in pharmacies and retail outlets and in parallel, more product have been deregulated for purchase without a prescription(Wazaify, 2005). At the same time Solhaug(2006) concludes in his recent abstract publication that only half of the information presented in drug advertisements was prepare and clinically relevant and relatively few statements were fault, but a con stancerable proportion of statements gave a n excessively positive picture of the product hence, in general, this kind of information has no value as a source of information(Solhaug, 2006).Among the publications those point out that drug advertisements are not up to the standard especially OTC drug, Ashish(1999)states in his publication that in reality, it has been observed that pharmaceutical product advertisers often promote their products to achieve their own goals at the potential risk of having an adverse effect on the consumers health and this type of advertising is most often seen in OTC drug product advertisements(Ashish, 1999).Wazaify(2005) points out that the deregulation subprogram has been championed by the pharmaceutical industry, the pharmacy profession and government health policy makers and is supported by the view that patients wish to have a greater role in their treatment choices. Almost all countries in the world has not allowed to pharmaceutical companies to advertise their product to consumers directl y. Stremersh(2009) states in his research paper that so far-off only two countries, New Zealand and the United States, allow pharmaceutical marketers to advertise directly to consumers and in the same paper he further explains that due to this grounds patient requests are often accommodated by physicians mainly because they affect physician visit satisfaction and show patients that the physician cares(Stremersch, 2009). Drugs are categorized into few groups and essentially there are two categories which are OTC drugs and prescription drugs. What is categorized as OTC varies from country to country and is dependent on the local legislative framework according to (Buckley, 2004).Many researchers have pointed out over-the-counter drugs has become a public health worry due to misuse, disease mongering and drug abuse and wrong, in appropriate or inadequate information given in the promotional program may have an impact of this health issue(Ashish, 1999, Allotey, 2004, Fernando, 2008, Buckley, n.d.). While there are government agencies charged with monitoring the marketing of medicines, typically this is one of many briefs for these agencies and is often only in a reactive fashion. In other words such monitoring as does occur, occurs only in response to complaints, and even then is often very slow and cumbersome(Buckley, n.d.). Buckley(n.d.) urges that two things should be happen to gravel this issue in a correct track which are establishing independent monitoring bodies to police marketing codes of practice with real penalties and paying(a) increased attention to the education of the consumers of pharmaceutical advertising, in particular those with prescribing powers(Buckley, n.d.).In Sri Lanka also the situation is almost same like most of the countries in the world. The government has obligate rules and regulations for promoting and advertising pharmaceuticals within the country. In a paper published by the Sri Lanka medical associations ethics committee re cently says thatAdvertisement to the general public should assist people to make rational decision on the use of drugs which are legally available without a prescription. They should take account of peoples legitimate desire for information regarding their health, but should not take undue advantage of their concern for their health. Drug advertisement should neither portray nor be directed at children. Advertisement may claim that a drug can cure, prevent or relieve an ailment only if this can be substantial. They should also indicate, where applicable, limitations to the use of the drugWhen lay language is used, the information should be consistent with the scientific data sheet or other legally determined scientific basis for approval. Language, pictures or sounds, which bring about undue fear or distress, should not be used. The following list illustrates the type of information that advertisement to the general public should containThe name of the active ingredient, using eithe r international non-proprietary names or the approved generic name of the drugThe brand name study indication(s) for useMajor precautions, contraindications for sampleName and the address of the manufacturer or the distributorInformation to the consumer on value should be accurately and honestly portrayed(Committee(SLMAEC), 2003).Though the chairlines are clear, there is a doubt of implementing and practicing the guidelines in many countries including Sri Lanka. There is a big challenge and responsibility for the government authorities and regulatory bodies in terms of providing correct information to the consumers.Techniques, methods and effective advertisingPharmaceutical industry is in a pressure and Kesic(2008) states that fast globalization definitively reinforces the consolidation of the world pharmaceutical industry. There are so many challengers in pharmaceutical industry and drug companies running after many strategic moves to have sustainable competitive advantage. Dire ct marketing products to consumer have become one of the innovative methods to win the market comparatively. Buckley(n.d.) states that in United States all drugs may be promoted to consumer, but in practice direct to consumer advertising focuses on OTC and common ailment targeted prescription drugs(Buckley, n.d.). But some authors support to this argument and they mention direct to consumer advertising makes consumer better understanding and make more informative for drugs available to them(Leonard, 1999, Weissman, 2003). On the other hand some researchers like Maguire(1999) points out that American physicians are being asked to rubber printing self diagnoses and self-prescriptions by patients. That is how some advertisements have been influenced on consumers.Kesic(2009) reveals in his paper that it is no surprise that the biggest world multinational pharmaceutical companies invest more than 25% of their sales into marketing activities in a goal to get considerable global market sh ares. Supporting to the argument of Kesic, Michael adds that not only have the number of drugs advertised increased, but so have the drug companies advertising budgets directed at consumers the advertisements have also become far more sophisticated(Michael, 2000). A paper published in Thailand in 2005 on Radio drug advertisement situation and regulation in Thailand says advertising has a strong influence on the sale volume of any goods. Drug advertising covers media such as television, radio, newspaper, magazines, internet and printed materials. It further says that radio advertisements can easily mislead people in rural areas because of socioeconomic and educational status(Kittisopee, 2005). Allotey(2004) mentions that OTC medications promoted through television, radio and print advertising directly targeted at women, housewives or working mothers, encourage them not only to self medication but also to dispense OTC medications to their children, because it is important to establish a lifelong pattern of sensible (drug)use(Allotey, 2004), Ashish(1999) explains that all pharmaceutical advertising is not bad but advertisements should be considered what they are promotions. Drug marketers should always try to follow the unwritten rules of marketing ethics and consider what is best for their consumers before create a particular advertising strategy. nowadays the issue is consumer can purchase any kind of drug online. Buckley(2004) highlights in his paper that consumers can purchase all kind of prescription drugs online often without get hold of for a proper prescription and he further points out that most internet pharmacies provide measly quality information(Buckley, 2004). Moynihan(2002) expresses that inappropriate medication carries the dangers of unnecessary labelling, poor treatment decisions, iatrogenic illness, and economic waste, as well as the opportunity cost that result when resources are diverted away from treating or preventing more serious diseas e(Moynihan, 2002).How consumers are misled -Reliability, Relevance and adequacy of AdvertisementsMany research papers point out that drug advertisements mislead consumers in many ways directly or indirectly (Sidney, 2002, Michael, 2000, Ashish, 1999, Findlay, 2000). Though it is a common phenomena in all over the world, a practical guide on understanding and responding to pharmaceutical promotion published by the world health organization recently explains clearly how information is given to consumers in advertisements in developed and developing countries. It says succession advertisements from developed countries typically contain nearly all of the information listed in the box, this is not always the case in developing countries(WHO, n.d.). The table below published by Hawkins(1993)in his research paper support to the above argument strongly and in the discussion he states that indications were mentioned more often than the negative effects of medicines. Important warnings and p recautions were missing in half of the advertisements while side effects and contraindications in about forty percent. Price tended to be given only in countries where a social security system pays for the medicines(Herxheimer, 1993).Nowadays there is a trend of promoting drugs through internet. Buckley(n.d.)mentions on his research paper that most of the internet advertisements provide less information or poor quality information. Many pharmaceutical companies mislead consumers in many ways. A United States nutrition and Drug Administration(FDA) has issued 88 letters accusing drug companies of advertising violations from August 1997 to Aug 2002(Buckley, n.d.). Most of the time drug companies overstated the effectiveness of the promoting drug and they always keep attention not to highlight its risk. Some companies disseminate advertisements misleading advertisements even after they were warned or cited for violations(Gottlieb, 2002). Some drug companies stimulate consumers to buy e xpensive or new drugs which has high profit margin and it raises the health care cost of consumers as well as of the country ultimately. Some drugs promoted by pharmaceutical companies have limited Medical beneficiaries but those are heavily advertised because of the high profit margin.Rebecca(2010) says its almost impossible for the public to actually parse the ads and come to their own independent conclusions(Rebecca, 2010). But Weissman(2003)states in his research paper that industrys argument is that patients are highly motivated to seek the best available treatment for their condition and they need and deserve more and better information on which to base their judgement(Weissman, 2003). It is true if the pharmaceutical advertisements provide proper, balance and correct information to their consumers. A research through with(p) in Thailand, sharing the findings says that 22% radio advertisements have misled consumers and only 7% of the advertisements have recommended an appropr iate dose among studied advertisements. Further more a warning message was found in only 3% of the advertisements and name of the manufacturers were present only 20% of the advertisements collected(Kittisopee, 2005).Weil(2009) is really against the trend of this drug advertisements. He says many informed drugs are not only ineffective, but have serious side effects that are frequently played down (and occasionally cancelled) by manufactures. Because advertised drugs have such vast profit potentials, political and financial interests collude to speed them to market before they have received sufficient scientific scrutiny(Weil, 2009).Now there is a trend of using popular characters for marketing advertisements of drugs and sometimes they are neither reliable nor relevance. In a paper published by Michael(2000) says that Now advertisements enlist well-known personalities to endorse pharmaceutical products (Michael, 2000). Lot of people imitate and follow famous personalities and it h elp pharmaceuticals to reach consumer quickly and in a familiar manner. Criticizing this promotional tactics Weil(2009) says in his report that Sally Field is a talented actor, But what qualifies her to promote Boniva, an osteoporosis drug that is of limited benefit, has worrisome side effects, and for which there are natural alternatives that merit careful consideration?.(Weil, 2009)Drug companies are in the process of promoting their product to consumers in many ways. Sometimes they may use health care professionals to reach consumers because they know that consumer believe professionals who have background knowledge about treatments. Wazaify(2005) points out in his recent published paper that The main factor found to influence the publics choice of OTC medicines was pharmacist recommendation. This is reassuring especially with increasing availability of potent medications without prescription and the increased potential for interactions(Wazaify, 2005). It is one of the indirect m arketing methods that the pharmaceutical industry uses.On the other hand people have a belief that over the counter drugs like paracetamol do not have serious side effects. Some over the counter drugs have serious side effects when consumer uses it with some other medications. A very good example is sildenafil citrate used for erectile dysfunction. If consumer use it while using nitrate as a treatment of blood pressure, it cause severe drop of blood pressure which is difficult to treat. Buckley(n.d.)says it has mentioned on advertisements but in a much smaller font, it is You must not take Viagra if you are using any nitrate medication including amyl(poppers). It may lead to a severe drop of your blood pressure that may be hindrance to treat. As sexual activity may be a strain on your heart your doctor will need to check whether you are fit plenteous to use Viagra(Buckley, n.d.). Buckley points out the ordinary people do not know what is nitrate medications and they cannot recogn ize from this statement that the combination of these two drugs will enough to kill them more often. Supporting to this argument Wazaify(2005) mentions that consumers generally believe that only safe medicines are permitted to be sold without prescription and OTC medicines do not usually have serious side-effects(Wazaify, 2005).Some giant pharmaceutical companies have their own physicians, independent monitoring committees and analytical groups etc. They make aware public some new drugs which are effective treatment for some diseases which are common among current generation and they suggest through advertisements, that it may be effective to use their drugs or supplementary product to prevent from those diseases. This is another current trend in the world and basically what they do is label healthy people that they are sick. Supporting to this arguments Moynihan(2002) express his view in this paper stating that Within any disease categories informal alliances have emerged, comprisi ng drug company staff, doctors and consumer groups. Ostensibly enmeshed in raising public awareness about undiagnosed and under treated problem, these alliances tend to promote a view of their particular condition as widespread, serious, and treatable. Because these disease awareness campaigns are commonly linked to companies marketing strategies , they operate to expand market for new pharmaceutical products(Moynihan, 2002).Extensive advertising and promotion has put on higher price on pharmaceuticals. Consumer has become the victim of those expensive pharmaceuticals. Dave(2010)says Promotion may affect price through two difference processes. First, promotion may increase demand and/or reduce the absolute magnitude of the demand price elasticity (that is, reduce the price responsiveness of purchasers), which may raise price. Second, the increasing operation cost due to high promotional spending may be shifted to purchasers in the form of higher price. Concluding his findings he s tates that in addition to potential misuse, the cost of direct to consumer advertising result from increased drug price and increased use of expensive drugs in place of evenly effective lower-price drugs(Dave, 2010).Effect of MisleadingMany researchers have pointed out that misleading consumer due to unprofessional advertisement of the pharmaceutical industry has created considerable issue to the society in many countries(Herxheimer, 1993, Dave, 2010, Leonard, 1999, Ashish, 1999). There is a reasonable doubt whether consumers spend money for their real requirements of treatments. Moynihan(2002) says drug companies earn lot of money form healthy people and it is better to describe as disease mongering. He further says whereas some aspects of medicalisation are the subject of ongoing debate, the mechanics of corporate backed disease mongering, and its impact on public consciousness, medical practice, human health, and national budgets, have attracted limited critical scrutiny(Moynih an, 2002). There are people who count this criticism and say Direct To Consumer Advertisements (DTCA) fosters rapid detection of disease and promote grater compliance with treatment regimes. Further more they suggest that DTCA is simply part of a wider social trend whereby consumers take greater responsibility for their health care(Hoek, 2002).Pharmaceutical industry may grab ample amount of money from consumers through unprofessional promotions and advertising drugs. Most of the time heavily promoted drugs may has less clinically importance considering the price as the generic drug provide almost similar clinical effect at a cheap price. Parker(2003),supporting to this argument says Prescription drugs such as Celebrex and Vioxx are heavily promoted and cost the consumer just over $2per pill, while generic ibuprofen, which cost the consumer pennies per pill, often work just as well(Parker, 2003). Effective and attractive advertisement can attract consumer towards the product some t imes without considering the quality or the value of the product. Ashish(1999) states in his publication that Advertising is thought to contribute to the economy as well. By effective promoting increase in promotion of goods and services may occur, which in turn can result in increase in sales and the flow of money within society(Ashish, 1999).But some researchers expresses a polar idea about the relationship between drug price and drug advertisements. They point out when drugs are advertised, the market is more competitive and due to that the price of the particular drug reduces. Research has generally found that advertising tend to reduce price, rather than increase them, primarily because advertising makes markets more competitive(Calfee, 2002).Sometimes drug advertisement give wrong information due to many reasons for consumers and it is affected for less dose or overdose usage of drugs. A general problem associated with drug advertisements is that it is a powerful influence wh ich may motivate consumers to select overly expensive, overrated, or less than optimum medications for their particular needs. More specifically, it is possible to chance upon numerous individual problems associated with the promotional practice(Ashish, 1999). Our culture very much believes in the More in Better principle and consumers sometimes even hospitalized or converge from serious long term complications due to this misleading information. Galapatti says it is important that media try and make people aware of the side effects and danger of excessive usage of these

Ghost Story of the Basement in a Haunted House :: Ghost Stories Urban Legends

The Door in the BasementThis invention was told by a 19 year old Caucasian male. The story was related in an informal, integrity on one setting between classes at the University. The storyteller did not personally experience the events in the story, but he heard the story directly from the people involved in it. The telling of the story was recorded, and the following transcript is nearly verbatim, with only minor modifications for the sake of clearnessOk, so I guess this story happened probably about fifteen years ago, maybe more than that. One of my parents friends had just bought a house. He and my parents other friend, names being Bill and Bernie, were going to the house to fix it up before Bill actually moved in. So, theyre looking around this house, and they were running(a) on it for probably a week or two, and during the week they had noticed that there was this black door in the basement. And it had a red X turn back across it. They couldnt open the door it had never ac tually been opened before as far as they knew. But it was just sort of weird and creepy, just had a really bad feeling to it, and again the door never really opened, so they didnt think too much of it.Well, one night while they were running(a) in the basement where the door was, Mr. Bernie had to leave to go get some extra parts or extra tools or something, so he got up and left. Mr. Bill was still working down in the basement. Well, it was maybe fifteen or twenty minutes later, and Mr. Bill was working in the basement not paying much attention to whats going on, when he hears footsteps up the stairs. So he thinks its Mr. Bernie coming back. Hes waiting, and the footsteps are walking around. They go into the kitchen area, they go into the living room area, and theyre just walking around. Eventually he yells up the stairs Bern, what are you doing? take a shit down here, help me out There was no reply. Mr. Bill waits for another minute or two, and still no reply, but he still hear s the footsteps. So he starts to walk upstairs, ready to drag Mr. Bernie back downstairs and getting really mad at him that hes walking around upstairs not helping him out while Mr. Bills trying to do some work downstairs.

A baby would take up all my time, the time that I needed to grow up myself.   I got up, dressed myself, and didnt bother putting any make-up on because I knew I would probably be countersigning. We went into the doctors office and found out that I was a little over triple months pregnant. When the nurse said those seven words, I started to cry. I looked over at my mom and she had tears in her eyes. I didnt hunch over what to think. I wanted it to be a d ream, that I would wake up from and everything would be okay. We then listened to the heartbeat, which was really fast. It was really neat and it made us cry some more. The nurses asked me a unharmed bunch of questions, gave me on some prenatal pills to sample, and then told me to schedule an appointment to come back sometime next week. They acted ilk it was no big deal. Well, it was, didnt they straighten out that I was only seventeen years old, a senior, and not even out of high school yet. I could no longer be the untroubled cheerleader, who had fun with her friends every weekend, and played beach volleyball at her cousins house. Now I was going to have a baby of my own, a little mortal that would be totally dependent on me. I was really scared I didnt know what I was going to do.   umpteen different questions popped into my mind on what I could do. Do I really want to keep this baby?
